Promoting Home-Stays in Nyshi, Garo & Mishing Village

About the activity: 

At the Eastern Himalayan Botanic Ark in residence at Wild Mahseer, three community villages of Assam (Garo, Mishing and Nyshi) opened up as homestay. Allowing explorative bio-cultural
walks and engagement with local communities to understand the intricate interdependent relationship between nature and the guardians of natural assets.

This is a joint venture of MASK (Mahila Sahakti Kendra, an NGO operating from Balipara of Sonitpur district who works closely with 300+ self-help group from 30 villages), Balipara Foundation, Wild Mahseer and Assam Investment Advisory Society. The team is providing continuous support to the community people in developing their ecotourism programme.

Social Impact

Ecotourism is bringing lasting economic gains to these local communities. There are visible signs of life improvements from the cash that is earned through these home-stays.
Homestays are increasing employment opportunities to these villagers.

With the economic gains, the communities are guarding the natural resources and is assisting in improving surrounding environmental conditions.
